A Legacy of Design and Engineering

Appel Osborne Landscape Architecture traces its roots to 1975, when Alfred Obrist, PE and Bruce Appel, RLA formed the original partnership, Obrist and Appel. Their founding vision was straightforward and enduring: join the technical rigor of civil engineering with the art of landscape architecture.

Rooted in New York Since 1975

The firm is founded.

Alfred Obrist retired and Marshall Goff joined the firm as partner. Under the name Appel Goff & Associates, the practice deepened its reputation for combining strong site engineering with a genuine flair for design.

Marshall Goff departed to pursue new interests, and Bruce Appel extended an offer to the firm’s only Associate, Peter Osborne, to join him in partnership. Peter accepted, and the firm became Appel Osborne Landscape Architecture.

Bruce Appel retired in 2008 and Pete Osborne retired in 2021. Today, partners Vincent Pietrzak, Timothy Bonaparte, and Cory Jenner carry that legacy forward — a 28-person team of landscape architects and site engineers who believe that collaboration between disciplines produces the best outcomes for every project.
